We are delighted and very proud to announce that as a school we have been accredited with the Gold School Games Award! This is a nationally recognised award and the highest award given by Sainsbury’s School Games Council. As part of the assessment we had to provide details about the delivery of PE lessons across the school. The percentage of children participating in school games and sports’ events was also taken into account, along with the extracurricular sports provision which is organised during lunchtimes and after school. We are very proud of our sporting achievements at Deddington and feel delighted to have had these achievements externally recognised and quality assured. The overall aim is to engender a healthy active lifestyle amongst all children which they will take on into their adult lives.
We regularly post details of local after school sports clubs school holiday sports camps.
All our children have the opportunity to participate in sports competitions whether this is in school or an inter-school competition. Here are some of the competitions we have entered.
This term we have been supported in our P.E sessions by two sports coaches. Simeon Crowthier, from Banbury rugby club, has worked hard with our year 5 and 6 classes to develop skills that support tag rugby. Sim has taught the children how to dodge, find spaces and to pass the ball accurately. Adam Bradley has worked with our year 3 and 4 classes to improve skills that are used in the game of football. The children have been taught skills that can be transferred to a wide range of sports as well as football. All the children have benefited from the expertise of the two coaches. It has been wonderful to watch all the children’s confidence improve as the term has progressed. Both coaches have worked closely alongside staff so that we can continue to deliver fantastic P.E to all the children in school!
The sports crew has been selected by their class to be leaders of sport for the school. There are two representatives from each house who will help to give a pupil "voice" and insight into sporting activities that our school offers. In our meetings so far the sports crew has decided that they would like to organise a intra class sports competition once a week at lunchtime. They have visited each class with a survey to find out what sports they would like to take part in. So far this term they have organised and refereed a year 3 lunch time football match and set up an obstacle course. We are looking forward to the next events our sports crew have planned for the Summer!!!
Welcome to our new school activators who have been extremely busy this term making our playground more fun and active. We are really looking forward to the new playground equipment that we will be purchasing next term with the money raised from our school council.
A huge thank you to the activators who have worked incredibly hard this term to make our playtimes 100%more enjoyable!
Cherwell sports' activators join the young Deddington activators!
This term we have been visited by the Cherwell sports' activators every Wednesday lunchtime. They have worked with several groups of children organising fun, energetic playground games. Particularly, they have worked with our young activators giving them ideas and tips for organising their own playground activities! Next term they will be joining us again at lunchtime on Wednesdays working with more children from our school community.
